Trend: Tassel Necklaces

Hey everyone! So I have to make a little confession... I recently found myself in a daze and completely mesmerized by a necklace wrapped around the neck of Rachel Zoe. I'm TOTALLY obsessed!  She was wearing (as shown below) a tassel necklace that seems to be trending now.  I love the tassel key chains I sell at my MADE BY GIRL shop, but who would've thought they looked so chic on our necks.  I did some major browsing around & and collected these pieces... also, check out the one I bought.

P.S:  my necklace is sold out at Bauble Bar, but you can get on their wait list, to be notified when it's available again!

ALSO: In the mood for a little DIY project one weekend?? Check out this awesome tutorial on how to make your own tassel necklace-- So creative, I LOVE it!!!

My Jewels Wishlist

I'm a ring, bracelet & necklace kinda gal

For whatever reason I'm not that into earrings. My husband always found that to be odd, since so many women wear earrings. Anyone else earring-less like me??

So, because I don't DO earrings I end up filling my jewelry drawer with necklaces, rings & bracelets. Lately my wishlist includes any of these below. Dying to get this Gold Shark necklace from ShopKei and of course the Acorn ring by Julie Vos

Are any of these your style?? Which of these could you see yourself wearing??

Summer Wishlist

I swear, this SUMMER I feel like shopping for a whole new wardrobe...or at least a partial wardrobe. Fat chance that I'll go nuts spending $$$ on a shopping spree, it's just not like me.

So, instead I decided to round up a few key pieces and will just choose 3-4 to sport around this summer! A new bathing suit is def a must right?? But then again, so is that Gucci fedora, to die for don't you think!?!

Which items on my wishlist can you see yourself sporting this summer??

Parker & Rain Trays

Friday is here & I'm so glad and hope to relax a bit, but first I'd like to tell you about a little shop I came across called, Parker & Rain. They offer a variety of interesting & colorful trays for the home. Trays are great for organizing...don't you think??

Tips for using trays effectively would be:

Place them in entryways - there you can place the small items you bring in from outside, such as keys, sunglasses and so on.

Use trays for perfumes -  This is a fantastic way to keep all my perfumes in one spot. It gives me a full display so I could see what I want to spray on.

Add your jewelry items in them- this is also something I'd recommend if you don't have a ton of jewelry and can easily be displayed. The key is to place each piece of jewelry in a way that each piece can be seen. Sort of like in a jewelry store. Get the picture?

I have a total of 3 trays in my current place, and each one has a different use, but definitely helps keep things organized & in place. These ones are fun & would surely add interest to any area of your home!

Parker & Rain is offering 20% to MadeByGirl readers - just use the discount code: MADEBYGIRL

How else do you use trays in your home??

Of A Kind

A reader pointed me to a site called, Of a Kind.

It's a clever site, where they feature select designers one at a time. They share a series of stories about each designer—inspirations, personal life, taste, training - along with a limited-edition piece designed exclusively for Of a KindNeat huh? Below I selected some of my favorites from their site - I just love this concept! Now if only I could get my hands on that camera strap, super cool.

Hurry before they sell out!

Deux Lux = P-r-e-t-t-y

Wow, yesterday was tough.

I hadn't felt that sick & exhausted in awhile. In fact, I didn't sleep much this past week & things just finally caught up. Ever feel like that? But, thank God, I'm feeling a bit better. So today I wanted to introduce you all to this AMAZING shop called Deux Lux. They have the cutest messenger bags - so glam & edgy.

You can carry any of these styles while you're wearing jeans & a t-shirt, they're that versatile! You may have already seen these cute bags, in fact the company was launched in 2005 by two ladies by the name of, Fati Mahdavi (aka "Mama") and Sara Naghedi. They've been featured on several blogs already as well as tv & so on!

My favorite bag has got to be the 'studded' clutch. Oh my gosh....I've been WANTING this clutch for quite sometime now - so, I'll just add it to my wishlist - again! Take a peek at the rest of their stash here, you will love it.

Cath Kidson accessories for serious items

Mori girls often feel a bit anachronistic, stuck in a time and place that doesn't quite match what's immediately around them. I sometimes feel a little strange trying to shop for things like laptop sleeves and business card holders. They seem so boring and serious. British brand Cath Kidson's charming vintage-inspired prints lend a bit of cheer to such items. I especially like those made of polka-dotted material. Polka-dots are a favourite of mori girls too. It's just a pity there's nothing in candy or animal prints! I'm sure many mori girls will go one step further and make their own.

Business card holder and spectacle case in vintage florals.

Business card holder and cell phone case. This is my favourite print of all those featured on the website (I've always loved white polkadots against navy). They have Blackberry cases too, for the more technologically-inclined mori girl.

Laptop sleeve and gadget case.  I myself use a laptop sleeve (though not from Cath Kidson) rather than a laptop bag. I just zip my laptop into its sleeve and toss it into my bag. It seems easier than carrying around a laptop bag.

Alice in Wonderland-themed Q-pot accessories

Some of you may have known for some time about Q-pot's Alice in Wonderland-themed accessories. I think Alice is a mori girl in her own right, with her insatiable curiosity and her army of offbeat acquaintances.

The Q-pot Spring/Summer 2010 range of Alice in Wonderland accessories centres on the Mad Hatter's tea party. Continuing Q-pot's fondness for accessories that reference all sorts of confectionery treats, the teacup, teapot and spoon are motifs that appear in the collection.

I am enamoured with the teacup ring on the left!

The necklaces in the first picture are strung with pendants shaped like teapots pouring tea.

Each of the major characters (not the Queen of Hearts though!) has a series of accessories dedicated to them. These Alice pendants make me wish my name was Alice too.

These rings and pendants pay homage to the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter.

The number 364 adorns the jewellery in the first picture. For those who need a refresher or just aren't that familiar with the story, the Mad Hatter's tea party celebrates the unbirthdays of all those present. Everybody has 364 unbirthdays a year--what better excuse for a celebration? The pocket watch on the right is a reference to the March Hare who is eternally convinced he's late.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite children's tales, and I think it's whimsical and wonderful enough to be of interest to any mori girl.

Hansel from Basel socks

Socks and tights, often layered one over the other, are often featured in mori girl fashion, especially with winter on its way for most of us. Hansel from Basel makes really cute, colourful socks that make me feel like lounging around the house in a cotton dress and stockinged feet!

These striped socks can be worn with oxfords, booties and other flat shoes.

My favourite sock length is just below the kneecap. What's yours?

Love the tops of these socks! These would look cute peeking out the tops of boots.

Classic thigh-highs that can be paired with all manner of feminine, floaty dresses. I have similar socks that I never fail to take out of storage each spring and fall.

Cute lemon yellow soles on forest green socks.

What I love best about cool weather is being able to mix, match and layer socks and tights. Summer is raging ahead here, though, so it looks like that's it for me this year.

Wonder Rocket accessories

So, I was surfing through the Wonder Rocket website a while ago when I chanced upon their accessories and couldn't help but think that other mori girls would love them too. There's a vintage feel to some of these items, while others have plant or animal themes.

The mori girls Mixi community specifically mentions pocket watches and leather pochettes as two of the things mori girls like. Could this have influenced Wonder Rocket's collection?

The flower pot pendant is adorable, while the tree necklace remains true to the forest theme of the mori girl subculture.

The floral hairclip looks like something you would see on a mori girl walking around Harajuku. Upon closer inspection, I realised the necklace has a sewing theme.

This necklace appears to be made up of a mixture of symbols of childhood and garden insects. But my favourite of the lot has got to be the gold rabbit ring! Isn't it the cutest thing ever?

Q-pot candy motif accessories

Mori girls love candy motifs and all things whimsical, and Japanese accessories brand Q-pot has been cited by the original Mori Girl Mixi community as a favourite. Q-pot has a range, charmingly called Q-pot Parlor, that features startingly lifelike replicas of chocolate, cake and candy.

Their most popular item must be their macaroon pendants and cellphone straps. They're really cute in an extremely girly way.

These are supposed to be chocolate roses. I wouldn't have suspected they were supposed to be made of chocolate if the website hadn't said so, to be honest.

Bananas dipped in chocolate. These look genuinely yummy despite the crystals in the chocolate. I think they're fun!

These appear to be cream-filled pastries. The slabs of strawberry look fresh enough to eat.

While I think many of the rings and pendants are really quite cute, I draw the line at these bracelets. Those are scoops of ice cream, by the way.

These are a tad overwhelming! They look like an interpretation of spiked punk bracelets.

Unfortunately, the bright artificial colours don't make these cakes look too tasty.

Limited edition box from a few years back. Lovely presentation!

What do you think of these accessories? Too sickly sweet for mori girls or appropriately quirky? I think in small amounts they can be quite whimsical, pretty additions to light coloured outfits.
