VOGUE HOMES

I love VOGUE. I'm a fashion-lover at heart & love visiting Vogue for their fashion as well as their 'Apt with LSD' home section. My all time favorite has been the home of Nicole Hanley Mellon in NYC.

Why? ................Well, just visit this link and you'll see why. Her antelope carpet alone by Stark Carpet (one of my faves) - is unbelievable!  Oh.... what I would do to have my home office covered in this rug. NOT EVEN KIDDING. This is a compilation of my favorite shots from their awesome home tours....

SERIES: My Home, My Space

What is your favorite area in your home and why?

Hi This is Dana! I live in an old railroad-style walk-up building on New York City's Upper East Side (we are neighbors!).  The apartment layout requires you to walk through one room to get to the next.  So, the "final" room is the master bedroom and my favorite room in the apartment.

I love the contrast of the all white bedding against the moody blue walls and the mirrored accents. Similar to your style, I'm obsessed with the Greek key rug!  A previous tenant built a closet over half of one of the windows, so I tried to create as much symmetry as possible with the pair of gray and white chevron chairs.

The room is simple and serene, yet a bit glamorous at the same time!  I just love ending every day in this space!

Challenges of Apartment Living

Renting a New York City apartment has it's ups & downs.  I LOVE living in Manhattan - but renting has 'DECORATING limitations'. It's been strange not being able to do major DIY projects or paint a wall or two - without the thought of having to paint it back when we move. Sometimes the apartment starts to feel stagnant, and new decor is a must! Know what I mean?

What I miss about owning a home is having the freedom to change up your space on a whim!  So, what is one to do?? Well, we can either do very small changes or just go online & live through others.
I do however find myself changing things out with accessories & new art....and you??

Do you live in an apartment?? Do you find yourself facing the same challenges?? What have you done to keep things fresh in your home??

Design: Refresh your home

Hi MadeByGirl readers, Amanda here with a few ideas to refresh your home without jumping too soon to Spring. With all our holiday decorations put away, it's amazing how empty a house can feel!

So as soon as mid-January hits, I like to freshen things up by adding in just a hint of color usually with a potted plant or a blush colored pillow and switching out the blacks for dark blues but the fur blankets and high pile rugs stay. Since it's still so cold out, I like to hang onto that winter cozy feeling.

design: A Decorator's Wishlist

Keyword "dream", people. Hi everyone, Katie here from H2 Design. We have all seen the obsessive amounts of holiday wish lists popping up around the blog-o-sphere. I thought I might take a slightly different approach and pull together a decorator's dream wish list, assuming price was of no concern.

Why not? We can all dream, can't we?! So let's dive right in. Hope you enjoy my picks! And despite what lies under the tree this year, I wish you all a wonderful holiday filled with lots of love and laughter!
Any will do, although, this number is pretty spectacular!
I find these to look even better as a pair, so throw in another while you're at it!

What do you dream about for your home?

Design: How To Add Color

Drew here, with a how to on adding color to a room.

There are many ways to incorporate color into a room, but the most important thing to remember is:
too much color is never too much!

I've provided a few examples on how adding certain elements with color, such as lighting, pillows, furniture, artwork and rugs can really make a complete impact on brightening up a room.

Whether you have lots of lighting or minimal lighting, a bold color used in either a chandelier or floor and table lamps will add such a strong impact to a room. The picture above is a perfect example. The aqua, crystal chandelier becomes the focal point of the entire room.

A simple way to add touches of color to a room is by adding fun and playful, patterned pillows.
They are easy to mix and match and even cheap alternatives to changing up the look and feel of a room.

Feeling bold? Purchase or paint your own furniture. With a neutral background, the furniture will set the stage for a room full of color.

Wanting to spice up your space or leave a unique, lasting impression? Try hanging original works of art and paintings to your wall. There's nothing greater than a full sized painting taking color control over an entire room!

Rugs tend to be viewed as a neutral foundation. Why not step it up and give your floors a punch of color! Don't just stop at one...add two or three, or even layer rugs to give your room an impressionable statement.

However you decide to use color in your house, be bold and gutsy!
Nothing shows more personality in a house than bright hues and a colorful layout!

Design: Industrial Glam Decor

Hello Made By Girl readers! This is Amanda from Lust luxe love, excited to be with you today sharing one of my favorite design look -- industrial glam with an edge!

I'm often drawn to homes with a mix of old and new - whether they're the combination of exposed brick and dark wood with modern light fixtures, or a rustic vintage find in a contemporary room. Although sometimes this masculine industriousness can be a bit of a design turn-off, when styled with the right accessories, you can turn the farmhouse look into a cozy, chic space!
